DermaFrac FAQs

Your Questions Answered

What does the DermaFrac treatment involve?

The DermaFrac involves a 3-step treatment process, with the aim of rejuvenating the skin. The first step includes Microdermabrasion, which involves the mechanical exfoliation of the outer epidermal layer. A textured handpiece is glided over the skin using vacuum pressure to remove dead skin cells at the surface. The result is a smoother and softer complexion with refined pores.

This is followed by gentle Skin Needling which involves the gliding of very small, fine needles over the skin surface using soft vacuum pressure. The needling creates micro-channels to the dermis, whilst simultaneously offering infusion of cosmeceuticals into this deeper cellular level. The micro-injuries created at this level stimulate the skin’s repair response, which eventuates in the production of collagen. This is a treatment which can be tailored to suit many different skin conditions and may offer benefits such as improved hydration and skin plumping, tightening of pores, repairing of scars, as well as reduction of fine lines, reduced pigmentation and congestion.

The final treatment modality involves a gentle LED light which is passed over the skin to help improve redness, inflammation and stimulate a healing response.

What skin conditions does it help with?

The DermaFrac is a treatment which can be tailored to suit a vast array of skin conditions, including enlarged pores, congestion, ageing and fine lines, sun damage and pigmentation, dehydration and dull appearance, as well as scars and stretch marks. The safety of the treatment means that we can also treat the tired under eye area and dry, thinning lips!

Is there any downtime?

With almost no downtime, the DermaFrac is a treatment which allows you to return to your normal daily activities immediately.

After treatment it is usual to experience mild-moderate redness, swelling and a tingling/warm sensation. This will subside within 1-3 days.

There is also the potential for very mild bruising or scabbing, which often settles within 3- 7 days. It is important to note that those who suffer occasional breakouts may experience a slight temporary flare in acne post treatment.

Is it painful?

The microdermabrasion process will usually feel slightly abrasive on the skin, however most patients are quite surprised the skin needling process is almost pain free! The skin may just feel slightly sensitive and dry for 1-3 days post treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

For best results we recommend a course of up to 6 treatments on a monthly basis. This may be followed thereafter by maintenance visits.

What is the pre and post treatment care?

We recommend avoiding the use of any exfoliative skin care products for 3 days pre and 3 days post treatment, such as retinol, lactic acid, glycolic acid etc. Whilst undergoing a course of DermaFrac treatments it is important to sun protect on a daily basis, and avoid sun baking/solariums. For optimal results we recommend you follow a daily skin care regime alongside your course of treatments. Your medical practitioner can tailor a skin care treatment plan to suit your individual needs.

Are there any contraindications to the treatment?

We do not recommend DermaFrac treatments for those with severe acne, broken or inflamed skin; and those with Epilepsy. Although the treatment is safe during pregnancy, we ask you provide a letter of approval from your Doctor or Obstetrician prior to undergoing treatment.
