Dermal Filler FAQs

Your Questions Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers undergo hylacross technology which ensures a thickened, smooth consistency, similar to a gel.

Dermal fillers are injected into the dermal layer beneath the skin surface, immediately plumping the treatment area.

Over a period of 2-4 weeks, the injected dermal filler will continue to attract water and therefore best results are seen after this time.

Over a period of time, the product will begin to break down and therefore further treatment will be required to maintain results.

Do dermal fillers have any side effects?

Minor side effects post dermal fillers treatment include temporary localised inflammation, including redness, swelling, heat and slight lumpiness at the treatment site.

These symptoms are very normal and will usually subside within a couple of days. There is also the potential for bruising at the treatment site, which is usually easily concealed with makeup.

If you are someone who bruises easily or taking any anti-coagulant medication, you may wish to apply an arnica or hiridoid cream to help speed any bruising.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Similar to anti-wrinkle injections, the longevity of results with dermal fillers depend on a number of individual factors, such as skin quality, hydration, metabolism and degree of muscular use within the treatment area.

At DermaCare we use several types of dermal fillers, which vary in longevity from a minimum of 3 months and up to 18 months duration.

Upon consultation, the medical professional will assess the treatment area before selecting the appropriate dermal filler. Expectations in terms of results and longevity will be discussed with you at this time.

Treatment Comfort for Dermal Fillers

At DermaCare we choose to use dermal fillers with added local anaesthetic to ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible. A topical anaesthetic and ice block may also be used to aid your comfort during the procedure.

Dermal Filler Post-treatment care

It will generally take between 2-4 weeks for the injected dermal fillers to settle into the treatment area, and therefore important during this time to refrain from massaging, rubbing or applying heavy pressure to the area. At DermaCare you will be scheduled a follow-up appointment 2 weeks post treatment to assess the results. We endeavour to ensure your absolute satisfaction with the treatment outcome.

Dermal Filler Treatment Contraindications

Dermal filler treatments are not suitable if you are pregnant, potentially pregnant or breast feeding.

Not all dermal filler products on the market are compatible, and therefore important you notify DermaCare if and when you have received any other injectable treatment within the area.
